Wow, there are so many things I’ve learnt here. I submitted my blog to the blog directories listed up there. Everything seems manageable. Thanks for a great explanation!

Oh that a really very good explanation of driving traffic to the blog. Content is the most important for get more visitors, no one come to see one empty vessel. If our content is good and informative than I can also get natural link from other which also called linkbaiting tips.

Well I like your post and whenever I write article on drive traffic I will recommend this article to my visitors.

ROFL…. Where do you get your information from? Getting listed in DMOZ is no longer important. It hasn’t been for some time.

Rose,

Well.. If you are listed in DMOZ, you are automatically added to dozens of other directories, because it’s all about its priority. That’s what I’ve heard from many succeeded bloggers, I’ll write about it, when I get listed, if I’d manage :)

If you believe, that you don’t have to be listed there – be it :)

succeeded bloggers? Don’t you mean successful? I’ve been at this a long time Allan. One of my websites is listed in Dmoz. ;-) Believe it or not I actually know what I’m talking about. lol

Dmoz does not have the weight it once did.

Another flaw in this post is “You’ll get traffic from article directories.” I use to advice that too until I learned it was not the case. I’m a freelance writer who has submitted articles to a number of articles directories. None of the article directories have brought traffic. They build backlinks though.

Rose,

“Dmoz does not have the weight it once did” – Well.. If I’ll see any actual evidence, then I would believe it.

About the “another flaw” – Could you show me the examples of your article submissions? I’d like to analyze why you didn’t get any traffic.

Well, I think it depends and each blogger has his own way to generate traffic. There is no “one size fit all”

Great post. A lot of good information to think about as a new blogger and bloggers who are looking for ways to gain more traffic.

I would have to agree about paid traffic and link purchases. I wil never recommend this strategy to any of my clients. These types of services will ruin your bounce rate and I read on Google GuideLines that they will even count this against you if you pay for traffic.

Thanks for the Mention Allan.

I receive article traffic nearly everyday so I think it is certainly a viable avenue. Works best when the article gets a good placement in the SERPs but people need to do what works for them and drop what doesn’t.

Karl

I agree! Making sure that your sites navigation is simple is one of the key factors. Have you ever been to a website where you just didn’t know what to do or where to start…. i can’t stand those… I end up leaving almost immediately.

One more thing come up to my mind re domain name that why you think using number instead of word to shorten domain name does works? I think reading the combination between number and words is not easy.

Tinh,

Not sure if it’s that hard to read a number instead of words. But, definitely, if one manages to read, he somehow remembers it better, because he had to think a little.

I’ve noticed it on myself :)

Interesting stuff, that was an enjoyable read even though it took me way past bedtime (lol). Prominent part for me being the traffic acquisition points, this is my main task for our golf society blog which we started just a few weeks back, getting some traffic from a cold start is really tough.
I have a website for my business which gets quite good traffic and has lots of backlinks but how we ever managed it was a mystery, until we found it was an article we wrote about a new law affecting our industry in the uk explaining what it meant in real terms for workers. The links to that article are crazy, so I understand what you mean by ‘be the first’ but replicating it when I mean it is hard, the last time was by pure accident.

Daz,

If the site you’re talking about, is the one you have specified here, then you have problems with titles and, probably, keywords.

Let me give you interesting resource – http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors

If you’ll get the idea, then you’ll be able to improve your traffic stats.

Anyway, stay connected and don’t forget to ask, if something’s not clear for you.

Thanks for stopping by and welcome!

Hi Allan,

Thanks for the tips. I have a question for you. How to you track the results of all of your efforts? Are you using Google Analytics? I recommend it, especially since it’s free. lol If you find out which sources are bringing you the most traffic then those are the ones you should focus on. If you take a look at Karen’s blog Blazing Minds http://blazingminds.co.uk/ you’ll see that each week she posts about where she is getting the most traffic from. The next thing you can do with GA is take a look at your bounce rate. It’s nice to get a lot of traffic but if they just come, stay for 2 seconds and leave then it’s not worth it.

This conversation comes up about EntreCard very often. I’m not sure how it works because I don’t use it but DragonBlogger mentioned the other day that they create lots of traffic but they have an extremely high bounce rate. You can take a look at his post here http://www.dragonblogger.com/tips-to-reduce-your-blog-bounce-rate/

Thanks for the post and it’s nice to see that you linked to Lisa Irby’s site because she is one of my mentors.

Ileane,

1. Yeap, I use Google Analytics, but you can always find out by yourself checking a page code source :)

2. I was not doing weekly traffic roundups, like Karen, becuase by this moment there was nothing to talk about. I’ve said “by this” moment, becuase soon I’ll make one… Things have changed!

3. You’re right about EntreCard and 2 seconds staying on your site – bad for bounce rate. That’s why I will not start using it. It’s just another service with transparent road to success. Maybe I will talk about it later.

4. Lisa Irby is my idol :) She was my, say, teacher in the very beginning… Of course, she didn’t know about it, because of thousands other pupils :)

Thanks for commenting by the way. It’s always a great pleasure to see you here!

For some bloggers some ways are not working. Every blogger has there own targeted traffic and for that they use specific ways.

I totally agree with most of the points you mentioned here..The look and feel of every website matter these days, also the quality of content matters. Your spam on the social media scene and your helpful friends also have a big part when it comes to gaining traffic.

getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it’s easier said than done.

Yeap, you’re totally right about messy blogs. And they usually die fastly, because messy design, actually, means that there is no soul behind the blog. It’s made to make money.. the only purpose.
